Coven Goes to Buckland

Before the COVID-19 restrictions took place, we took our broomsticks on a trip to visit The Buckland Witch Museum located in Old Brooklyn, Ohio. Walking in, we were greeted with open arms by one of the owners - Steven Slane. Right away I couldn't help but get mystical vibes similar to those I felt in Salem, Massachusetts. With their wide array of crystals and informational books, to tarot cards, to Buckland Museum t-shirts and “witchy” posters, this place had it all!

Throughout our time perusing the shop, Steven was very knowledgeable and open to any of our questions. He then proceeded to guide us through to the museum half of the building. There, we were captivated by the large amounts of magick artifacts and history related to the occult. The Buckland collection also included artifacts from many leaders of the pagan community such as Raymond Buckland, Sybil Leek and Aleister Crowley. One of our Coven staff, Ponchi Berrios, said.

“I was instantly pulled in by the calming, but powerful energy. I think it's a great place to go to see some awesome pieces. But it is also a great place to go to connect to your craft and those you may practice with. I think they have done a great job at keeping the energy high and cleansed so even the most sensitive of visitors can be at ease while taking everything in. I think it has been beautifully coordinated as well; each piece draws you in and flows to the next. I'm looking forward to being able to come back and spend more time taking in each artifact!”

After absorbing the information presented to us, we then took advantage of the magical atmosphere by taking many group photos. We had fun experimenting with a mix of funny and serious poses that each capture our unique personalities. I personally had a hard time with the serious poses because I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. After our photos inside, Steven offered to take us outside behind the shop to see his hearse. Yes you read that correctly - his hearse! It also wasn't a surprise to us that his license plate read “Bewitched”.

We were all head over heels! Overall, we had an amazing experience at The Buckland Witch Museum, and would recommend it to both people who practice and those who are just plain curious.
